Let’s just say it:


Boosting a post is not the same thing as running a Facebook ad. Not even close.

And if you’ve ever been told “we’re running ads for you” when all that’s happening is boosted posts… yeah, we should talk.


What Is a Boosted Post?

Boosting is Facebook’s “easy button.”

You take a post you already published, hit “Boost,” pick a budget, maybe choose a basic audience, and call it a day.

Sounds simple—and it is.
That’s also the problem.


Boosted Posts Are Good For:

  • Getting more eyeballs on a post
  • Increasing likes, comments, and shares
  • Basic brand awareness

Boosted Posts Are NOT Good For:

  • Lead generation
  • Conversions
  • Serious targeting
  • Real ROI tracking

Boosting is like putting a billboard in a random spot and hoping the right people drive by.


What Are Real Facebook Ads?

Actual Facebook advertising happens inside Meta Ads Manager—and it’s a completely different game.

This is where strategy lives.

Real Facebook Ads Give You:

  • Advanced audience targeting (behavior, interests, demographics)
  • Retargeting (people who visited your website, engaged with your content, etc.)
  • Conversion tracking (what actions people actually take)
  • Multiple campaign objectives (leads, traffic, sales—not just “engagement”)
  • A/B testing (so you’re not guessing what works)

In other words:
This is where your money starts working smarter—not just harder.


The Biggest Difference: Intent

Here’s the truth most agencies won’t say out loud:

👉 Boosted posts = attention
👉 Real ads = action

If your goal is:

  • “Get more likes” → Boosting can help
  • “Get more leads, calls, or sales” → You need real ads

Anything else is just spinning your wheels.


Why This Matters for Your Business

We’ve seen it too many times:

A business spends hundreds (or thousands) boosting posts and says:
“Facebook ads don’t work.”

But they never actually ran ads.

They paid for visibility—not strategy.

Boosted posts aren’t bad. They’re just limited.

We’ll even use them occasionally—for the right purpose.

But if someone is managing your “Facebook ads” and:

  • They never mention Ads Manager
  • They can’t show you conversion data
  • They only talk about likes and reach


You’re not running ads.
You’re paying for noise.
